To Whom it May Concern,
Thank you for the ample amount of notifications about the sidewalk cleaning that will be taking place Monday morning at 6 a.m. The
demonstrators outside of City Hall have voluntarily and peacefully complied with your request to vacate the sidewalk, with the full intention of reoccupying after the cleaning is complete. I wish to extend to you my sincerest apologies for the criminal activity we attempted to commit by pressure washing the area on behalf of the City, for some reason we can’t avoid being a nuisance to your standards of order.
I have reviewed your additional warnings about citations over the storage of public property. The City of Portland recognizes that property is constitutionally protected when it directly relates to the practice of free speech. As you may know, I have endured 44 days on a Hunger Strike for Housing Justice, outside of City Hall. There is no determined end date for this protest. The property that I maintain around my person is involved in making sure I remain as safe as possible as I conduct this risky action. I keep two sleeping bags, because I have lost the ability to internally regulate my body temperature, which saves my life when it is cold and rainy, such as it was this morning. I keep myself supplied with sanitized water in glass containers, to prevent toxins from accumulating in my body. Also, to prevent brain atrophy I commit to a daily regimen which includes: 1 tablespoon of honey, 8 calcium tablets, 3 teaspoons of non-caloric electrolyte powder, 1 teaspoon of potassium, 1 teaspoon of protein, and a glass of unsweetened tea. I also have a movable battery to charge my laptop and cellphone, in case an emergency where I need to contact a medic. All of these items allow me to safely exercise my practice of free speech. I have no intention of ending this hunger strike if public officials attempt to cite me for these amenities. Lack of these items will most likely cause me to lead to a very dramatic
hospitalization, which is publicity that I would rather wish to avoid. I look forward to our positive cooperation in respecting the essence of this protest.
If you have any questions, concerns, or commendations you wish to direct to me, I can be contacted at 503-890-5716.
Stay Healthy,
Cameron Whitten.
